Well, it all started way back in 1991, many, and I mean many moons ago.
I had this dream that I wanted to open my own school for the deaf in a small town in the far North of South Africa called Louis Trichardt, after a life-changing experience I had on a bus with a small child that turned out to be deaf. He left an everlasting impression on me. So what did I do? I went and studied teaching at a teaching college in Johannesburg. But our Father in Heaven had other ideas with me… So after a year of lot’s of migraines, illness and not adapting in the big city, as I am a Bushveld girl, and will always be, I ended up back in my hometown Louis Trichardt.
Lo and behold guess where I ended up? With my dad’s companies, he had two successful local newspapers one for the local town and one for the neighbouring country Venda. He taught and guided me in the sales, advertising and business side of the two newspapers. He imparted his many years in the newspaper industry experience on me. You see he worked for I think if I remember correctly 3 newspapers before he opened his own when I was still in school, beginning of High school to be exact. He had an excellent business mind, and oh my word he was a state of the art salesman.
He only took me out with him for a week or so, and then he threw me to the lions… No, not really, but he left me to my own devices. And I ended up actually enjoying it so much, and making friends for life along the way. Oh yeah, and making lots of money for those days. I remember quite a few years later I got a call from the one lady that still worked there at that stage, and she said to me that there had never been somebody like me and my co-worker, Ilona when it came to our advertising sales and our commissions earned.
After 4 years thriving in the newspaper environment I moved away, my Dad was disappointed as he wanted me and my sister to take over the companies. I stayed in sales and advertising ever since… Even though at one stage I got tired of making more money for the companies I was working for and not getting my worth in value back.
So I decided to retire from being an advertising sales representative after 14 years and went into Insurance administration and data capturing. Long story short, got my certification in Business Management and Administration and also did my NQF level 5 in Short-Term Insurance. From 2005 -2016 while I was in the insurance industry I still did what?
That’s right sales, I could not get rid of the passion and love for sales… I was stuck with it and it with me. So yes, I did sell stuff on the sideline always… And I ended up doing the marketing for two companies (owned by my boss at that stage) I was with for over 11 years. I got retrenched in June 2016 and I and my husband ended up in a small town with no solid income from my side.
Beginning in 2016 my husband started Orbit Business Solutions (PTY) Ltd for websites on the sideline but did not take it further as it was too time-consuming for him. So I started brand awareness with it after my retrenchment, offering my services to start-up and small businesses to build their brand identity and give them their “visual voice” especially people who do not have the time or “time” to do it. I also equipped myself with studies in Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing & Blogging & Content which enabled me to reach an NQF 6 level.
And then guess who came knocking on the door? Jip you guessed right “ADVERTISING SALES”
